Our Learning Focus
Math: We will introduce measurement using feet and inches. Students will be asked to measure and estimate lengths in standard units. We will start by measuring objects in inches, then we will measure objects in feet, and students will determine when it is best to use each.
By the end of the unit, students will be able to:
MGSE2.MD.1 Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
MGSE2.MD.2 Measure the length of an object twice, using length units of different lengths for the two measurements; describe how the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen. Understand the relative size of units in different systems of measurement. For example, an inch is longer than a centimeter. (Students are not expected to convert between systems of measurement.)
MGSE2.MD.3 Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
MGSE2.MD.4 Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in terms of a standard length unit.
Reading/Language Arts: We will review how apostrophes form contractions and possessive nouns. We will also focus on nonfiction text features.
Phonics - Unit 13 - Vowel Diphthong /ou/
down, shout, mouth, town, sprout, south, surround, powder, outside
Writing: Students will edit and revise their second informational writing piece. They have already researched, written, and typed this piece which is on the topic of their choice. They will also add purposeful illustrations with captions/labels, and they will share their pieces with the class.
Social Studies: We will continue to explore allocation of goods and services.
• Goods and services are allocated (or given out) by price, barter/trade, majority rule, contests, force, sharing, lottery, command, first-come first-served, personal characteristics and other methods.
Science: We will review Energy (Heat, Light, and Motion) and Forces of Motion (Push/Pull)
STEM: Toy Invention
