Our Learning Focus for the Week of April 17th
Math: This week we will practice partitioning rectangles and circles into halves, thirds, and fourths.

Reading/Language Arts: We will begin a unit on comparing and contrasting two texts on the same topic. Students will also review finding the main idea, supporting details, and author's purpose within each text.
Phonics - Unit 21 Irregular Plurals
sheep, deer, moose, tooth, teeth, woman, women, goose, geese
This list includes plurals and singular plural pairs. Students will be asked to spell each word and identify whether it is singular, plural, or both.
Tooth, woman, and goose are the only always singular words on the list.
Students will also practice forming and using irregular past tense verbs this week.
For example: go - went, give - gave, think - thought, have - had, tell - told
Writing: Opinion Writing and Narrative Writing
Students will finish publishing their Jimmy Carter opinion pieces, and they will begin a unit on narratives.
Science: We will continue our unit on plant life cycles. We will introduce the frog life cycle.
STEM - We will water and observe our newly planted bean plants.
We will observe root systems and plant growth over the next few weeks. Students will be documenting their observations in a plant journal, and these observations will be used as research for the next STEM activity.
Social Studies: We will continue to learn about Jimmy Carter. Students will use what they have learned about him to create their opinion piece.
