Our Learning Focus for the Week of March 6th
Math: We will continue to focus on money. We will solve word problems that involve money.
For example,
James has three quarters, 4 dimes, and 1 penny. How much money does he have in all?
Reading/Language Arts: We will continue our unit on folktales, fables, and fairy tales. This week we will focus on comparing different versions of the same fairy tales. We will also review elements of each, practice finding the moral/message, and understand character point of view.
We will review shades of meaning with adjectives and verbs.
For example, students will be asked to arrange words in order of strength.
warm, hot, boiling
Phonics - Suffix Unit 22
Read and write words with -ed and -ing endings
helped, helping, printed, printing, joked, joking, dropped, dropping
Writing: Opinion Writing
Students will continue with their persuasive letters to the person of their choice. We will focus on strong introductions, body paragraphs with multiple reasons and examples, and strong conclusions.
Science: We will review how the Sun compares to other stars, and we will learn about how shadows form and change during the day.
STEM - Shadow Sticks
Social Studies: We will begin to focus on the government and the need for rules and laws. We will be learning about different levels (local, state, national) and different leaders (mayor, governor, president). Students will also be asked to locate the national and state capitals (Washington D.C. and Atlanta)
