This week we will be reviewing and starting the following standards.
Math - We will begin our measurement unit. Students will be exploring how to use inches and feet. We will also review two step word problems within 100.
MGSE2.MD.1 Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
MGSE2.MD.2 Measure the length of an object twice, using length units of different measurements; describe how the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen. Understand the relative size of units in different systems of measurement. For example, an inch is longer than a centimeter. (Students are not expected to convert between systems of measurement)
MGSE2.MD.3 Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
MGSE2.MD.4 Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in terms of a standard length unit.

Writing - Informational Nonfiction Writing
ELAGSE2W2: Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a concluding statement or section.
This week we will finish typing our second informational writing piece. Students will add illustrations to accompany their writing, and students will grade themselves using the informational writing rubric.
Students will also explore "How To" writing with a fun winter themed topic. Do you want to build a snowman? If you do, you will love this task. :)
Social Studies - Economics
SS2E1 The student will explain that because of scarcity, people must make choices and incur opportunity costs.
SS2E2 The student will identify ways in which goods and services are allocated (by price; majority rule; contests; force; sharing; lottery; command; first-come, firstserved; personal characteristics; and others).
SS2E3 The student will explain that people usually use money to obtain the goods and services they want and explain how money makes trade easier than barter. SS2E4 The student will describe the costs and benefits of personal spending and saving choices.
Students will explore economics with topics regarding scarcity, goods and services, allocation of resources, and the benefits of saving and spending.
SS2H1 The student will read about and describe the lives of historical figures in Georgia history. a. Identify the contributions made by these historic figures: Tomochichi, Sequoyah, and Mary Musgrove.
Students will present their American Hero presentations.
Science - S2P3. Students will demonstrate changes in speed and direction using pushes and pulls. a. Demonstrate how pushing and pulling an object affects the motion of the object. b. Demonstrate the effects of changes of speed on an object.
S2P2. Students will identify sources of energy and how the energy is used. a. Identify sources of light energy, heat energy, and energy of motion. b. Describe how light, heat, and motion energy are used.
Students will review forces in motion and energy.
