This week we will be reviewing and/or starting the following standards.
Math: Money
MGSE2.MD.8 Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately. Example: If you have 2 dimes and 3 pennies, how many cents do you have?
Reading/Language Arts:
ELAGSE2RL2: Recount stories including fables and folktales from diverse cultures and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
ELAGSE2RL9: Compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story (e.g., Cinderella stories) by different authors or from different cultures.
ELAGSE2RF3: Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. (Sort 25 R-influenced Vowel Patterns)
ELAGSE2L2: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
Students will compare and contrast fairy tales and folktales. Students will also practice using commas and r-influenced vowel patterns.

STEM: Shadow Sticks
Science: S2E1. Students will understand that stars have different sizes, brightness, and patterns. a. Describe the physical attributes of stars—size, brightness, and patterns.
S2E2. Students will investigate the position of sun and moon to show patterns throughout the year.
a.Investigate the position of the sun in relation to a fixed object on earth at various times of the day.
b. Determine how the shadows change through the day by making a shadow stick or using a sundial.
c. Relate the length of the day and night to the change in seasons (for example: Days are longer than the night in the summer.).
d. Use observations and charts to record the shape of the moon for a period of time.
Writing: ELAGSE2W1: Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
Students will write opinion based letters.

SS2CG2 The student will identify the roles of the following elected officials: a. President (leader of our nation), b. Governor (leader of our state), and c. Mayor (leader of a city)
