Happy Friday!

I hope you can all come and enjoy Tritt’s first Food Truck Friday hosted by our PTA from 6:00-8:00 PM tonight! :)
 
This Week’s Learning Standards: 
Math- We will review one and two step word problems. 

Reading/ELA- Students will compare and contrast two texts on the same topic.  We will also review prefixes and suffixes. 
We will also begin reading Charlotte's Web!

Writing- Students will begin a personal narrative review. 
Science -Life Cycles Butterflies (Plants and Frogs)
STEM- Complete Shape Robot STEM Challenge and Begin Life Cycles Challenge

Our Learning Focus for the Week of April 16th

Happy Friday!
I hope you can all come and enjoy Tritt’s first Food Truck Friday hosted by our PTA from 6:00-8:00  PM on Friday, April 20th.
 
This Week’s Learning Standards: 
Math- We will continue learning about shapes, and we will learn how to partition rectangles and circles into equal squares. 

Reading/ELA- We will continue to explore the main idea/supporting details in multi-paragraph texts.  We will also ask and answer who, what, when, why, and how questions about each text.  This includes using context clues to help understand the paragraphs we read. 

Students will also begin to compare and contrast two texts on the same topic. 


Writing- Students will add finishing touches to their classmate biographies and their Jimmy Carter opinion pieces.  If time allows, students will begin a personal narrative review. 

Social Studies- Jimmy Carter 
Science -Life Cycles (Plants and Frogs)
STEM- Life Cycles Challenge

Happy Friday!
Thank you for all the kind gestures, sweet flowers, and yummy treats this week!  I truly feel appreciated, and I hope you all have an amazing break!  
 
This Week’s Learning Standards: 
Math- We will begin our unit on recognizing and drawing shapes.  We will focus on triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.

Reading/ELA- We will continue to explore the main idea/supporting details in multi-paragraph texts.  We will also ask and answer who, what, when, why, and how questions about each text.  This includes using context clues to help understand the paragraphs we read. 

Students will review irregular plurals and irregular past-tense verbs.


Writing- Students will publish their classmate biographies, and students will begin working on their opinion piece about Jimmy Carter. 

Social Studies- Jimmy Carter
Science -
Life Cycles - Plants 
STEM- Seasonal Tree Spring Models (Rescheduled due to the weather.)

Happy Friday!
This week is Exceptional Children’s Week. We will be visited by guest speaker Andy Lipman who will teach us about Cystic Fibrosis and accepting others differences. Please make sure to ask your child about this!
 
This Week’s Learning Standards: 
Math- Addition and Subtraction within 1,000 (regrouping)
Reading/ELA- Main Idea of multi-paragraph text, irregular plurals and irregular past-tense verbs
Writing- Informational Biographies

Our Learning Focus for the Week of March 19th

​Dear Parents, 
If you have not done so already please turn in your child’s enrollment information for next year along with the large envelope and 4 stamps. The envelopes will be used to mail your child’s end of the year report card as well as other important information regarding the 2018-2019 school year.
 
This Wednesday our 3rd quarter report cards will be sent home. Please keep this report card for your records and return the white envelope signature card. If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s grades please do not hesitate to reach out!

Our Learning Focus for the Week of March 12th

Here is what we are learning about the week of March 12th:

Math- We will be reviewing coins/bills and their values.  We will use this understanding to solve word problems involving coins and dollar bills.  

Reading- We will continue to explore folk tales (fairy tales and fables). We will explore story elements, morals/lessons, and character point of view.  Students will focus on comparing different versions of the same story.

ELA - We will explore homophones and focus on common word endings such as -er, -or, -ing, -ed. 


Writing- Opinion Writing
Students will select an opinion piece to prepare for our next Publishing Celebration. 

Science- The Sun and attributes of stars such as size, brightness, color, etc.  We will also compare the Sun to other stars based on its attributes. 

Health - Dental Hygiene

We will focus on creating strong introductions, solid reasons and examples, and clear conclusions. 


Science- The Sun and attributes of stars such as size, brightness, color, etc.  We will also compare the Sun to other stars based on its attributes.

Dear Parents,
I am so excited for our Fire Safety Village Field Trip on Wednesday.
Please have your child wear their second grade Kind is the New Cool shirt if they have one. Children are asked to wear tennis shoes and that girls do not wear dresses. If your child is bringing a lunch from home, please make sure that it is in a disposable bag.  :)

The Week of February 5th

Dear Parents, 

Thank you for returning the field trip forms for our visit to the Fire Safety Village on the 14th. We will have an in house visit this week to get the kids ready.

We will be having a Valentine's Day card exchange on February 14th. :) Information went home earlier this week about optional boxes and Valentine's Day cards. 

Box Top collection begins again on Monday. If you have been collecting, please send them in groups of 50. Thank you so much!

Our lost and found area is overflowing. Coats/items with names are returned if found but those without names are often donated if they cannot find their owner. PLEASE put your child’s name in their coats. I would hate for them to lose them.
 
Here is what we are learning this week:
Math- Add/Subtract within 1,000 using mental strategies/problem solving  
Reading/ELA- Folktales, fables, and fairy tales. We will be looking at story structure and asking/answering questions and determining the lesson or moral.

Writing- Opinion Writing
We will also work on expanding and rearranging simple and compound sentences.
