Dear Families,
Today we had our first STEAM Showcase, and the kids did an absolutely amazing job demonstrating what they have been learning about. Their challenge was to create an environmentally sustainable glue using flour, baking soda, cornstarch, salt, and water. Through this challenge they not only demonstrated how matter can be changed in irreversible ways, but they also used their glue to create line designs based on their art standards. I was blown away by their use of the 4Cs, and their ability to accept and celebrate the ideas of their classmates. Be sure to ask your child about it!
SeeSaw parent access codes will be coming home next week. Be on the lookout so you can see what your children are doing in class. :)
I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Carla Teuchert
Here is what we are learning for the week of 9/2:
Reading/ELA- We will continue to focus on questioning while we read, and we will continue to explore character traits, character changes, and story structure (beginning, middle, and end). We will begin to look at the problem/solution and the moral/lesson within stories as well.
Phonics – We will review irregular plural nouns (feet, teeth, mice, fish, etc.) We will introduce collective nouns, and we will continue to practice with short/long vowels and vowel teams.
Writing- We will continue our unit on small moment stories (personal narratives). We will focus on zooming in and giving rich details to bring our stories to life.
Math- We will continue our place value unit. Students will build their understanding that the three digits of a number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones. Students will also practice showing numbers in various forms such as expanded form, written form, base ten block form, and standard form.
Social Studies- We will begin to learn about the regions of our state (Blue Ridge Mountains, Piedmont, Coastal Plains, Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau).
STEAM – Stuck Like Glue Challenge (continued)
Important dates:
Monday: No School
