Our Learning Focus for the Week of January 11th
Math: This week we review place value, comparing two three-digit numbers and skip counting. Next week we’ll learn new addition and subtraction strategies – Friendly Numbers and Same Difference.
Reading: We are working on making inferences while reading. We make inferences by using clues from the text and our prior knowledge (schema). Learning to make inferences will help us understand what they author wants us to know and in turn will help us become better readers.
Writing: We are introducing opinion writing next week. We will look over examples of opinion pieces, model how to write one, and begin the writing process. Our first opinion piece will be a book review.
Social Studies: This week we began learning about Jackie Robinson. We will continue to talk about Jackie and his contributions next week.
Science: We will continue to learn about the sun, moon, and stars.
