This week we will be reviewing and/or starting the following standards.
Math: Addition of Multiple Two Digit Numbers
MGSE2.NBT.6 - Add up to four two-digit numbers using strategies based on place value and properties of operations.
Reading/Language Arts:
ELAGSE2RL5: Describe the overall structure of a story including describing how the beginning introduces the story, the middle provides major events and challenges , and the ending concludes the action.
ELAGSE2L4: Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple meaning words and phrases. b. Prefix
ELAGSE2RF3: Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. (Sort 22 R-influenced Vowel Patterns)
Students will focus on the elements of fairy tales and folktales. Students will also practice using prefixes and r-influenced vowel patterns.
Students will review ELAGSE2RL9: Compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story (e.g., Cinderella stories) by different authors or from different cultures.

Science: S2E1. Students will understand that stars have different sizes, brightness, and patterns. a. Describe the physical attributes of stars—size, brightness, and patterns.
S2E2. Students will investigate the position of sun and moon to show patterns throughout the year.
a.Investigate the position of the sun in relation to a fixed object on earth at various times of the day.
b. Determine how the shadows change through the day by making a shadow stick or using a sundial.
c. Relate the length of the day and night to the change in seasons (for example: Days are longer than the night in the summer.).
d. Use observations and charts to record the shape of the moon for a period of time.
Writing: ELAGSE2W1: Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
Students will finish publishing their book reviews and zoo opinion pieces. Students will also begin to write short opinion pieces in which they answer questions about different topics.
Social Studies:
SS2H1 The student will read about and describe the lives of historical figures in Georgia history. a. Identify the contributions made by these historic figures: James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove (founding of Georgia); Sequoyah (development of a Cherokee alphabet); Jackie Robinson (sports); Martin Luther King, Jr. (civil rights); Jimmy Carter (leadership and human rights). b. Describe how everyday life of these historical figures is similar to and different from everyday life in the present (food, clothing, homes, transportation, communication, recreation, rights, and freedoms).
We will finish learning about Jackie Robinson and Martin Luther King Jr. Students will compare and contrast these men, and explore how they both fought for civil rights. Students will also complete a biography organizer on Martin Luther King Jr.
