This week we will be starting/continuing the following standards.
Math - MGSE2.NBT.2
Skip Counting
and MGSE2.NBT.1 Place Value (Week 2 of this standard)
Writing - Cinquain
We are continuing to set up our Writer's Workshop model, and we are exploring poetry.
Social Studies - SS2G1 (Week 2 of this standard)
The student will locate major topographical features of Georgia and will describe how these features define Georgia’s surface. a.Locate all the geographic regions of Georgia: Blue Ridge Mountains, Piedmont, Coastal Plain, Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau.
Science - S2P1 (Week 2 of this standard)
Students will investigate the properties of matter and changes that occur in objects. a.Identify the three common states of matter as solid, liquid, or gas.
STEM - Place Value Marshmallow Challenge
Students have been using materials that represent each place value we have learned about (ones, tens, hundreds) to build the tallest possible structure that does not surpass 999 in value. They have been asked to use graham crackers, pretzels, and marshmallows.
Update - The tallest structure built reached 8.5 inches in height!!!
Reading - ELAGSE2SL1: Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 2 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.

Ask and answer such questions as who, what,where,when,why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
We will be investigating what good readers do like check for understanding and back up to reread.
We will also be starting Phonics - Blends ch, sh, wh, th.
